April 2008I added a trio of sunburst to
the galleries page.
March 2008
Well, it's kind of
embarrassing to realize how long it's been since I posted anything here.
It's not as if nothing happened. Maybe I should think about renaming this
page?!
So, I am excited about an article which
John Thomas wrote for
the Fretboard Journal. It is in the current spring issue #9 and is
available at bookstores and by subscription. Thank you to both John and the
folks at the Fretboard Journal!

Thank you to Connecticut public radio WNPR who came out to the house and
to my workshop to do an interview. John Dankosky made the interview very
easy. He really has a knack for asking the right questions at the right time
to keep the interview flowing. Thanks for help from John Thomas and Greg
Ionnotti for their musical contributions.
A bit of a disclaimer, though, the guitar mentioned that went to Eric
Clapton was made at the Guild Guitar Co. and I was supervising.
Unfortunately, it was not a Walker brand guitar!
The interview is online at WNPR's web site and can be listened to by

A nice article by
Evan McGlinn
was published in Departures Magazine
about Walker Guitars. Departures
is the magazine for American Express Platinum cardholders.
There is an online version of this article which you can access
here. The hardcopy has
some nice pictures also.

I put up a new gallery of pictures. The pictures are of a Style B
Special which is going to Mandolin Brothers next week. You can view
the gallery here.

I have reprinted Guitars with
Real Soul: The Work of Luthier Kim Walker, written by
John
Thomas, which was published by Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine in their #49
issue.

Well, it's been a while since I posted anything here!
Actually there have been some new developments. In March I did some site
remodeling. It was time to clean things up a little bit. I cleaned up the
navigation structure and the links to the various pages on the site.
More importantly, however, I decided to clean up some of
the model structure for my guitars. I decided that I simply had too many
basic models, so I decided to discontinue some. I've also adjusted prices
for the remaining models. Thank you all for another good year! I
appreciate your continued enthusiasm and support.

I am fortunate enough to have an article, written by John Thomas, in
the current issue #49 of Fingerstyle
Guitar Magazine! I must say that I am very flattered to have the
article written by John and to have it published in such a fine magazine.
Thanks to both John and the folks at Fingerstyle Guitar! April
14, 2004 I now have this
article online. You can find that here.
There is a new gallery up in my picture
gallery. It is of a recent Brazilian Rosewood Style
A Special OM with an Adirondack Spruce top.

I have posted the new "current delivery
prices" for 2003. From what I can tell in the used market, these
prices are still reasonably conservative. Thank you all for your interest
and support!

The March 2003 No. 123 issue of Acoustic
Guitar Magazine, titled Dream Guitars, mentions Walker Guitars! The
lead feature article, titled The
Guitar of a Lifetime by Steven Stone, was written after
interviewing five solo custom guitar makers, one of whom is yours truly!
They included five of my photographs! Check it out. There is an online
version of the article at the above link.

I am grateful but at the same time overwhelmed by the enthusiasm and
support of my many customers that has led to my current, estimated four
year wait list. Unfortunately, I don't feel comfortable predicting the
future four years in advance. So, I’ve implemented a new pricing policy
that you can see on the "pricing and ordering"
page. This policy is subject to change. If I again lock prices for future
guitars those having deposits in would be the first contacted.
Aug. 29, 2002
I put some new pictures of in the Picture
Gallery. They're not of Walker Guitars, but some fun shots
nonetheless.
Aug. 14, 2002
Well, it's been way too long since I did
anything new here. So here are some new pictures for the picture gallery.
These are pictures of a Style A Custom.
Other good news is that Bill Henry has
released a GREAT solo CD (Red Sky). It has some wonderful guests including
Vassar Clements and Sam Bush among others. All the guitar work on the CD
is on Walker Guitars! This CD is one of those that ends up being played
again and again because every time you listen to it, it seems to get
better. Great work Bill! You can check out MP3s and find out more about
the CD on the OMS Records
website. You can find out more about Bill on the Northern
Lights Band website.

Happy Martin Luther King day to all.
Today I did some very modest updates. I
changed the pictures on the "Style
C" page and the "Style
A" page. It's a little more accurate
representation of what those models should look like.
I also added a Gallery
page. I'm hoping that this will be a fun work in progress. At
least a good place to put miscellaneous pictures that don't fit in any
particular category.

I have a few things that I would like to mention. First
off, there is an interview with me by David Dugas in the upcoming
(January/February) issue of Flatpicking
Guitar Magazine. David had some good questions, and I'm
afraid I got a bit long winded with the answers. My friends assure me that
it is not that bad!
The second thing that I would like to mention is, to all
those in the northern climates, PLEASE take care
about the humidity level in your acoustic instruments. This
is crack season. If your action has to dropped, you are getting
buzzing, or are you can feel the fret ends on your guitar these are danger
signs. 40% relative humidity in the guitar environment is about the lowest
acceptable. Any less than this and you are asking for trouble. Acceptable
humidity levels are generally considered between 45 and 60 %. Ideal is
50-55%.

I hope that everyone is having a joyous holiday season!
I want to thank all of my friends and customers for your
interest and your orders in the past year. In these troubled times we all
cannot help but feeling somewhat uneasy. This fact makes me particularly
grateful for your support. My back order list has extended to about three
years now, which I find totally amazing.
I have revised prices for 2002 and they are now in
effect.
Nov. 6, 2001
I have been doing a little
remodeling. I've updated and added pictures to the Excel
page.
October 5th, 2001
Yesterday, Alan Organschi brought a class
from the Yale School of Architecture to the shop for a talk about the
acoustic properties of wood. This was a group of a dozen 5th year Third
Semester Design Studio students. Their project was to design a bluegrass
performance venue that included recording facilities and amenities. As
might be expected, it was a bright group. These people knew a lot about
materials and asked good questions. It kept me hopping for a good hour and
a half.
July 21, 2001
Once again, I would like to thank all of you who have
ordered guitars! It appears that my waiting list has extended out to about
2 1/2 years now. WOW! Because of having to project out into the future, I
am again raising prices. Thanks for your support, I know we are all
looking forward to getting those guitars finished.
March 4, 2001
I have added a size specification
chart to the flattop section of the Website.
February 12, 2001
I would
like to thank all those who have ordered guitars and made it possible for me to keep up
with the inevitable march of time. Yes, it is time for new prices.
I have had several requests regarding specifications on body sizes. I
have been thinking about this and will try to include a comparison chart in the near
future.

I will again be giving a guitar making demonstration,
Sunday February 4, 2001 at the Museum
of Fine Arts Boston. This is in conjunction with their Dangerous
Curves/the Art of Guitar exhibition. The demonstration
will be from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. I will be bringing along a couple of guitars
and some guitars under construction, as well the doing some live guitar
making. The last time I demonstrated in November turned out to be a lot of
fun. The exhibit is really great, I highly recommend it! I invite all those in the
Boston area to attend the guitar exhibit and to my demonstration. This is a wonderful
museum and certainly worthy of many days of attendance. For more information click
MFA.

Ted Banks came up with another present for me for the WebSite! He set up
a link to the search engine DejaNews which I have set up on the Good Things Said page, check
it out. Thanks again Ted!
January 6, 2001
My friend Ted Banks sent me a very nice present by email. There is a
brand-new search feature on this WebSite and I thank Ted for putting it together for me!
October 24, 2000
